About the Work
Domestic Cars to 1 Ton: is the focus. Beyond that, we’ll do what current talent in house can handle. Essentially, everything you're capable of. Maintenance, light duty and heavy line. Everybody essentially does everything including oil changes and tires. Be prepared to perform 1-4 per day for the purposes of inspection.
Car Count: Within our model, we like to see an average of 4 cars per day per tech. Most technicians succeed with seeing 3-4 per day at 2.5 average hours per repair order; however, for the ambitious professional more cars can obviously be seen.
Dispatch: Think “eat what you kill.” A responsibility of the foreman is to ensure you get appropriately fed based upon your skills, abilities, and availability, along with the client’s timeline.
Specialty work like Flashing, Programming, Etc: We sub specialty work out to a mobile tech who does the work same-day. Unequal rotational approach.
Back-of-House Workflows
Inspections: We inspect every vehicle, every time
Waiters: We “show and sell” while draining the oil
Drop-offs: We aim to call our clients with the original concern within an hour, and notify them of additional findings by priority at the same time
WIP: The most important car on the lot is the one not sold. Perform diagnostics/inspections in the morning; authorize/get parts and keep on wrenching through the afternoon.
Writing Tickets: Technicians get laptops with dual screen setups and have the authority to choose their own parts and labor times. If they disagree with the labor time in the book, they just need to add a labor line with a note of why and the difference.
Also note: Foremen/apprentices/Quality Control AND/OR an equivalent quality peer staff are on-site to aid you in successfully avoiding time-wasting situations and accomplishing the most amount of work possible. For example: QC can test drive vehicle post repair and the Foreman handles client questions, etc.
