Keeping Your Car? We Can Replace the Engine!

We understand here at Total Auto Care. Your car means everything to you, and you never plan to get rid of it. We can extend the life of the existing engine with regular service and repairs when necessary. When the time comes to replace the engine, we can do that, too. Listed below are reasons why an engine needs to be replaced due to mechanical problems. You may also need a new engine if you get into a severe accident, which we hope never happens.

Constant Knocking Sounds

If the engine is knocking constantly while the vehicle is running, you may need to have the rod bearings replaced in the cylinder block. The knocking sound that you hear is the pistons crashing against the cylinder walls. Unfortunately, this can damage the cylinders and necessitate the need for a partial engine rebuild to replace the cylinder block.

Constant Overheating

Your engine may also need to be replaced if it is overheating all the time. First, we will inspect the cooling system thoroughly and replace it if necessary. This being said, the engine may also be overheating because you have a cracked engine block. Two other major problems can make the engine overheat all the time: a cracked head gasket and a cracked exhaust manifold.

Excessive Exhaust Smoke

If you see a ton of exhaust smoke flowing out of the tailpipe while you are driving your automobile, your engine has a serious fluid leak. The color of the exhaust reveals the fluid that is leaking. For example, if you have a blown head gasket, the exhaust may turn white because the coolant is being burned by the engine. Blue exhaust means that you have an oil leak. A fuel leak causes the black exhaust.

Metal in the Motor Oil

We will definitely need to replace the engine if there are metal flakes in the motor oil. Not only can the metal flakes destroy the engine, but the engine is already destroyed. The metal flakes are a sign that the engine is disintegrating. As the motor oil circulates through the engine, it collects the disintegrating metal. We can't repair this problem.

Significant Power Loss

Another problem we cannot repair is significant power loss in the engine without an underlying cause. There will come a point when your engine will no longer be able to produce power simply because it is too old. We will need to replace the engine at this point.Call Total Auto Care in North Branch, MN, today to set up an engine inspection for your automobile.
